• we might be using an older smartphone or a desktop
• we cannot count on a cell signal or internet access at the place where you need to consult the app
• we may be wearing gloves or other PPE
• we can’t depend on audio because alarms might be going off
• we need to answer an urgent question (where is the power switch? Is that flashing light a bad thing?) without delay
